Our Faculty Members Took Part In The Science Café Event Titled “Future Competencies”

Balıkesir University (BAÜN) continues to bring science together with society by carrying scientific knowledge beyond the campus through Science Café events organized with the support of the Council of Higher Education. The Science Café event, held under the theme of “Professions of the Future” and aiming to introduce young people not only to scientific knowledge but also to the professions, career paths and future skills emerging from this knowledge, hosted a meaningful meeting during the university preference period.

Organized by Balıkesir University Press and Public Relations Unit Science Communication Office and held in the garden of Necatibey Faculty of Education, the event titled “Future Competencies” was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Cevdet Avcıkurt, Prof. Dr. Murat Doğdubay and Prof. Dr. Fatih Satıl, members of the senate, academic and administrative staff, as well as students who will make their university preferences and their parents.

The event was moderated by our Faculty Vice Dean and Faculty Member of the Department of International Trade and Logistics, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tansu Özbaysal. Prof. Dr. Pelin Vardarlıer, Faculty Member of our Faculty’s Department of Business Administration, Melike Yıldırım, TP Human Resources Management Manager, and Eylül Öztürk, a first-year student of our Faculty’s Department of Business Administration, took part in the event as speakers.

During the event, the effects of university preferences on career steps, the key competencies expected by the business world in the future, digital transformation processes and experiences regarding the first year of higher education were shared with the participants. The event, which provided strategic guidance for young people and their families during the preference period, featured important evaluations on the professions and competencies of the future.

Speaking at the event, our Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu stated that, through the Science Café events carried out with the support of the Council of Higher Education, the university continues to bring its scientific knowledge together with society during the university preference period. Emphasizing that artificial intelligence will transform some professions while also creating new professions and fields of work, our Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu drew attention to risks such as information monopolization, disinformation and perception management, and underlined the importance of not remaining outside this transformation. Stating that we should take part not as an element of artificial intelligence but as those who manage and guide it, our Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu thanked those who contributed to the preparation of the event and presented certificates of appreciation to the contributors.
